The Curriculum

"Good leaders develop through a never-ending process of self-study, education, training and experience."
The U.S. Army Manual on Military Leadership

Three common threads are woven into the core curriculum of The Center:

1. Understanding yourself in the context of leadership. Who are you today? Who would you like to be in the future?
Through a series of self-assessment and feedback tools, you will develop a greater understanding of yourself in the context of leadership. This new perspective will influence the way you work, motivate, and communicate with others, in both your business and personal life. Through the program, you will have opportunities to more fully understand how others view you. You will set specific objectives based on your future goals and aspirations, as well as your current realities. As you progress through The Center for Leadership, you will measure yourself against those objectives.

2.Understanding the skills and practices of exemplary leaders.
Leaders take risks, see the benefits of change, and promote a shared vision. But how? Why do some leaders achieve extraordinary results while others fail? What distinguishes the effective leader from those who are simply given leadership responsibilities?

These questions and more are answered as we explore the specific characteristics, practices, skills, and commitments of exemplary leaders. Each one of The Center’s five workshops focuses on a different set of practices and skills required to achieve extraordinary leadership results.

Inherent in The Center’s design is a specific focus in the following areas:

3. Developing leadership strategies. Our actions create our reality. Why does a specific leadership practice cause success in one situation and failure in the next? How do you really know what to do when your organization looks to you for answers or direction?

Through down-to-earth, true-to-life examples and exercises, you will explore, experience, and dissect the applications of leadership skills. Each of the sessions looks at the application of specific practices in the context of personal and organizational readiness and culture.

"Nothing worthwhile ever happens quickly and easily. You achieve only as you are determined to achieve...and as you keep at it until you achieve."
Robert H. Lauer
